ah wus runn-ang

my assistant coach, james, came out to the track on tuesday to keep me honest :)

he has never run a marathon and is excited to watch me like a little experiment a-brewing.....he even posts my workouts on the fridge and highlights "important" details...especially those about hydration since i am water-phobic. (just kidding, lucho, i swear, i drink tons of the stuff...drink it till i drown)....

while i like to think he was enthralled by my running in circles... i think he wasmore interested in the infield....football practice at one of the top schools in CA. nothing like a little high school football...

and he took some videos....feel free to tell me what i am doing wrong. bring it! i need all the help i can get.

this one is my 3rd 400m in a 200, 200, 400 (repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat....)

looks slow, but if i was running whole miles it would be about 5:40 pace...good thing i was only running quarters!

video

and 400 #4....8.5 miles into it....TIRED!!!!

5:40(!) is fast...even for "only" 400's!!!

Nice work...the videos look good to me, but what do I know? :)

First, if you were switching the direction you were going on the track, I am super impressed. I can't do that ... gets me all naseated to go the wrong way on the track hard ... only can do it with warm ups. Feels like I am unravelling the fabric of the universe to backwards hard.

Second ... I think you were holding your form well on the later video but ... you (and I) do seem to get a bit "blocky" in your arm cadence in the later video. I have called this "reading the paper" (the arms go across the body as if you are reading the paper). As I am sure you know, being crisp in form when tired will be highly beneficial because it will mean you use less energy with form issues, and translate that energy (not used) into faster running.

JW ... more vid of the football too ... I was just getting the low down on that play.

i like the new look of the blog, especially the "welcome to the gun show" pic. sounds like you are on the right track(ha ha no pun intended) to running a fast marathon. i would love to join you in vegas(if i'm running by then) - it is supposed to be a great course plus there are a lot of those all you can eat buffets there which i can see myself really getting into...

Great videos Beth (and James). There's nothing wrong with your form. Even when you were tired. When you know the camera is on you, your run form will be more thoughtful. GZ has a great point in that fatigue is compounded by a loss in economy- so on race day I hope you pretend that the camera is on you, simply relax and hold good run form. Your cadence is great- a little faster when you were fatigued showing a loss in stride length. Tight hamstrings and hips may be why? The more long runs you do the more delayed the tightening will be. It won't ever stop happening- the last 10 miles of Vegas are going to be agony.. Inadequate aquatics (hydration) also causes muscle to tighten. Nice job on the workout again!

What ? James doesn't run beside you to help with motivation. What a slacker.

Seriously, your 14 week plan to Vegas sounds great, and I agree with James, the "After Party" should be epic.

oh man!! I had a friend from cali ask me to do Vegas. Now I really feel like I should do it. I'm doing Disney in January..and there will be lots of expenses and traveling during the Holidays. I'll def think about it though!

Nope, you don't look slow AT ALL! I think James was more into you running than the jocks, you looked good sista! And I noticed all the jocks watching you run too...

Happy training miles! When is your marathon? I am so happy it is RUNNING season... I am training for mine too!

Nevermind, dec. 7th... I answered my own question, I just read your previous post I missed while having a pity party for missing Kona! I SUCK!
I am so happy we are training "together" for our marathons (long distance training that it).

Yesterday was a blast! Thanks for running slower with me for a bit:)

I love your post on the swimmer chick...too funny.

P.S. I tried yogurt shack on my way home (okay it wasn't really on my way). It was delicious...I liked the Only 8.

I can't BELIEVE you were bitchin at ME about not posting! YOU get off your lazy fanny and post woman!

I'm now inspired to post video of me running... without my cape! You've gotten some good feedback! Thought you looked good... drop your chin a bit maybe? A little more forward at the hips maybe?

I would be cautious about the Las Vegas Marathon. Word on the street is that Devine still does not have the $3 million bond that the city of Las Vegas demanded due to past shoddy business practice. Also, as of today they still don't have a permit. Perhaps looking for other races just in case might not be a bad idea.
Your running looked great though, keep up the good work!
